Our family are usually turkey eaters (poor birds) but we still have the occasional beef burger at fast food places. So when we had the chance to try some Angus Burgers from Private Selection (Kroger Brand) along with their chips and dessert, Hubby was all excited biting his teeth into some “real” meat! We had a little hard time finding the food at first- our local QFC didn’t have any of the meat and their freezer section was frozen over on all of the ice creams. Luckily our Fred Meyer had everything we needed and we FINALLY got some sun here in WA to cook outside!

The patties were really easy to form and they stayed together nicely. The flavor was super juicy and a nice taste. Sometimes burgers can never get enough salt without them drying out but these stayed moist. Ours also got a boost of flavor from our favorite seasonings- Lemon Pepper from Satko’s Real Food.

We don’t use mayo very often but I had mine with some ketchup. You can also try it with a glaze- here’s a good one:

Mint- Pepper Glaze

  • 1/2 cup apricot fruit spread
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 TBS fresh mint, chopped (try the Private Selection brand!)
  • Zest of 1 lemon + 2 TBS lemon juice

Combine ingredients in a small bowl and chill. Serve as a condiment to your burgers and sandwiches.

For our sides we HAD to have watermelon (hmmm) and Private Selection Kettle chips. Their Kettle chips reminded us a lot of the a Hawaiian brand Kettle Chips but not as flavorful- just a “spicy”/crunchy taste (my dad loved them). For dessert, we had Apple Pie and Pecan Ice Cream- YUM. The pie filling is just right….not too sweet though the topping was just a little too sugary. The Pecan Ice Cream was a tad salty but it made it a good compliment to the sweetness of the pie. We got the 6” Private Selection Apple Pie which had a nice crust but it wasn’t very pretty when we cut it (it fell apart). But this was a nice dessert without having to go to all of the trouble to make from scratch! Oh, I’m so glad that summer is here and we can do BBQ again!!
